The University of Gondar is one of the pioneers of higher education in Ethiopia which was initially established in 1954 as a public Health College and Training center (PHC&TC) and then officially established with its current status and autonomy as a university in 2004. The University of Gondar has passed through various levels of development regarding its scope, status, and influence. The institution’s vision is to be one of the top ten leading research universities in Africa in 2030 with the motto “devoted to excellence”.
Currently, the University owns more than 84 undergraduate, 165 master’s, and 49 Ph.D. programs. The institute offers regular, extension, and summer programs for more than 36,453 students in its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. There are more than 10,558 staffs that run 8 colleges, one institute, and one school. The University of Gondar has more than 34 international partners to implement various development projects. Among which NURTURE project which runs for six years from 2021 to 2026 is one of them. The University is the project coordinator of the southern partners which include the University of Gondar, Jimma University, Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, Debre Markos University, and Hawassa University.
