Dr. Tesfaye Bayu Bati is an assistant professor of Information Systems at the Faculty of Informatics of the Institute of Technology at Hawassa University (HU). His research engagement focuses on the adoption, use, and evaluation of information technologies for development with an emphasis on education. The other focus areas for research and student supervision are natural language processing for under-resourced languages and tech entrepreneurship.
Some of his previous project activities cover computational thinking for high schools, youth entrepreneurship through ICT Business Incubation and entrepreneurship, and implementation of e-learning in the Ethiopian higher education context. Managerial responsibilities at Hawassa University he assumed are Head of the Department of Computer Science (2005 – 2007), College Assistant Registrar (2003 – 2004), and Deputy Director for Research and Technology Transfer (2016 – 2022).
As a person with origin from a rural community, He has a personal motivation and vision to see Quality Education for all including digital inclusion (SDG 4) and Sustainable Agriculture (SDG 2) succeed. Equally important are productive employment and decent work for youth through entrepreneurship (SDG 8) and creating a wider partnership to these ends (SDG 17). He looks forward to and works for the achievement of these goals through his education, research, consultancy, and community service activities.
