Dr. Josef Noll is professor at the University of Oslo (UiO) and Secretary General of the Basic Internet Foundation. His focus at UiO is on communication, IoT-security, and especially Societal Security, including the impact of digitisation. He is leader of the cross-cutting theme “Digital Global Health” at the Centre for Global Health at UiO.
His vision of “Internet Lite for all” addresses directly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9.C and 16.10 of the Agenda 2030. His focus is on how Internet Lite catalysts sustainable development, especially in the areas of health (SDG 3), Education (SDG 4), empowerment (SDG 5) and decent work (SDG 8).
He has been project leader of a series of international projects, amongst them “Non-discriminating Access for Digital Inclusion” (DigI) and “Security for IoT for Smart Grids” project, as well as involved in several Digital Health projects. Besides his academic background, he has worked in SIEMENS (DE), European Space Agency (NL) and Telenor (NO).
